Basic Group Breeding
- Shaded X Agouti = BAD
- Chocolate X Shaded = BAD
- Shaded X Tan = BAD (unless shaded tans are accepted)
- BEW X anything but BEW and vienna marked/ carrier = BAD
Showable colors are best when:
- Tan X Tan (Tan breed to any other group often lead to a decrease in the intensity of a the tan pattern)
- Shaded X Shaded
- Agouti X Agouti (Safest bet, but Agouti can be bred to tan and self)
Diluted Genes
Dominant---> Dilute/Recessive
- Black ---> Blue
- Chocolate ---> Lilac
- Chinchilla (black chin) ---> Squirrel (blue chin)
- Chestnut (black chestnut) ---> Opal (blue chestnut)
- Tortoise Shell---> Blue Tortoise Shell (self explanatory)
- Orange ---> Fawn
Tips to Remember
- Any color other than the Agouti gene can't carry the Agouti gene.
- REWs hide what they really are genetically.
- Torts, while considered Shaded, are genetically Self.
